Dear Bristol Parent,
I am happy to announce some exciting news. A former Bristol resident has created a perpetually endowed scholarship fund to send a Bristol school child to summer camp at Keewaydin or Songadeewin on Lake Dunmore every summer until he or she reaches the age of 15-16. The scholarship is known as the Stearns and Barbara Gay Keewaydin Scholarship and is open to boys and girls, ages 10-16, The ideal candidate would be 10 or 11 years old, thereby using the scholarship to its fullest. However older students will be considered. It is intended for families whose income would make it difficult to send their child to Keewaydin from their own funds. Based on current tuition prices, the scholarship’s value is up to $8,750 per summer or over $52,500 for the full 5-6 summer scholarship term. This office has formed a screening committee to accept applications, review them and recommend the most deserving candidate for final decision by the Keewaydin Foundation’s Scholarship Committee, where the scholarship resides. The Scholarship Committee will also evaluate whether a full or partial scholarship award is most appropriate.

The fund’s benefactor attended Keewaydin for 6 years about 50 years ago, and has called it “one of the most significant experiences of my life”.

We expect that only one child will be selected this year. We think it is a wonderful opportunity. The filing deadline is February 20th.
